"Who would turn down an offer to work in 'paradise', to join a training programme with one of the most prestigious hotel chains in the world, and be assigned to two beautiful resorts?
Soon after graduating from Hotelschool The Hague in the Netherlands, I moved to Hawaii to work as Manager in Training (MIT) at the Four Seasons resorts on the island of Lana’i. My rotation included Guest Services at the Resort at Manele Bay and Housekeeping at the Lodge at Koele.
As an MIT, I was accepted as part of the management team right away, and gained valuable knowledge in all the departments I was assigned to. Together with my mentor, we planned my career path and selected training courses which would help me reach my goals.
The most valuable lesson I gained from my tenure, however, was in interacting with people – be it a staff who needs guidance, a guest with a complaint, or my superiors. All these experiences will be remembered and put into practice as I embark on my new assignment as Assistant Housekeeping Manager at Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora."
